Inspiration Found in Unplanned Moments…..

Inspiration reveals itself in the most unusual or unexpected times, and is something I had to share straight away! I had come to the end of my printmaking session and was finding a place to rest my last print of the day, which was made on a section of plywood. Many of the sections of wood I use are often found or recycled and will be bowed. In order to flatten the piece of wood I placed two metal weights that were in the studio and the idea came rushing to me in an instant. The two pieces of metal with their patina and square form complimented the timber extremely well, where the two metal squares appeared to amplify the pixel imagery in my print. The idea of presenting prints in this way, where they are stacked is appealing and will be something I attempt to make. I am further motivated by the idea that not all the prints will be able to be seen as they would be obscured when stacked. They will create an entirely new object, taking on the form of a sculpture. The image could be repeated on multiple sections of plywood or be one image that is dissected into parts that can be formed to make a whole when constructed again.

This moment strikes again in the studio space where I see some new plywood racks that have been made for a delivery of new squeegees. I can imagine my prints being stacked in formation on these racks and provides me with another idea for displaying my works.

More inspiration came to me in the space when I was observing my prints drying in the studio rack. The grid appears in my work and was exaggerated with the overlaying metal grid of the drying rack. It reminded me of the lead in-between stained glass windows and provided me with another possible display option for my work.
