From the outset of my major project I have wanted to exploit the marks I have made, using them as a point of departure where new works can be made. An area I wanted to investigate was the relationship between printmaking and drawing which was also going to be the subject of my dissertation, therefore, connecting both works together. This quickly changed as I navigated my dissertation studio classes and the decision made to disregard printmaking; I was constantly trying to shoehorn the concept into the other areas that were beginning to surface. However, an element of this has been retained in my major project where I endeavour to have my human made marks constructed via digital means. This has lead me to explore various ways my imagery can be used, whether that be by photocopying, digital manipulation or isolating various elements. What can be seen seen throughout my work are the elements that surfaced initially and used as a foundation to explore the journey between physical and digital processes. What I have created is an archive as such that I can mine and use to incorporate and develop in my work. I treat my prints like paintings and it is no surprise that painting has moved into my practice. I love to blur the boundaries and mix different mediums into my output.
Prints arranged on canvas Prints that have been dissected and arranged on the canvas
I have begun to adhere these fragments of past prints made in the beginning of the year to canvas which I have then painted over using diluted oil paint. The intention for these experimental works are not to necessarily be end works but steps in the process where the intention is then to photocopy them. These works many be incorporated into my end of year show as they prove to be important parts to my practice and signify my position with regard to what prints can be.
