It was my scheduled group crit on Thursday and I relished the opportunity to display a range of work and treat it like a mini exhibition. As I work much of the time in the print workshop it was a good activity to clear my space and take the time to observe my work. My thought process is now looking ahead and planning for my end of year show. Therefore, curation is now an important facet to my making activity, where I will endeavour to operate in alternative spaces in the university building. My initial observation to the display is that the work requires more space in between works, however, in this situation I have to work with limited space. An important influence in my work has been the windows of the studio space, so it was essential that these played their part in my presentation. Working with the space the work finds itself in is essential and responding to the environment play a key part. displaying a print on the window allowed the imagery to correspond with the frame and the building on the other side. I also explored having works venture out onto the floor and have works leaning against the wall. I used duct tape to extend the print nearest the window which created a dialogue with the wooden flooring and the window print. All the works were linked in some way and demonstrates the relationship between subsequent works. I often work with a monochrome palette, therefore, injecting colour into the configuration was a welcomed addition.

There was much positive feedback and find it interesting listening to all the various comments, where the viewers are trying to decipher the crafting methods. The above image which focuses in on the triptych, which consists of three screen printed images which have gone through the usual vigorous process of digital manipulation have been overlaid with a mixture of burnt umber and red to create a rich orange tone. This has been heavily diluted to respond to the below digital image. The image can be viewed as a print of digital painting and was intriguing that my peers considered that this work was random and potentially took less effort to make than the others. This work was in fact very complex and took a number of different iterations to get the desired result. The painted prints are in direct response to the digital image and signifies where my practice is potently navigating.
