The Screen as Canvas

Following on from my previous post and thoughts on what can be a canvas, I start to consider how I can display my prints and furthermore, what constitutes as a print. As I engage more with digital practices and my fascination with pixelation grows, the tv screen poses an interesting option to act as a canvas and display my work. The above images are from online selling websites where I have searched for broken tv's. I love the distortion created by the broken monitors and how the materiality changes. Pixels and colours are brought forward and appear in juxtaposition to the retained elements. Can I get totally away from a physical print and have the imagery displayed on a monitor or can the monitor itself become the work? What would happen if I then photocopied or scanned these surfaces, these are all interesting questions that I will be exploring next. What is appealing to me is that there is a relationship between physical and digital, if I photocopy the surface, this will then create a physical object, where the image then manifests on paper, it is like a constant roulette that continues to rotate and throw-up constant new combinations. The work is also not totally digital, it is displayed on a screen, the monitor itself is the device that presents the image and itself is physical.
