The above image demonstrates the observations I make when using a digital screen and how elements I witness appear in my work. I was looking at the work of Christopher Wool, particularly because he employed screen-printing in his practice. He would layer previous images he had made and worked between obscuring and revealing his imagery. This is not so different from how I am working with the fragments of leftover newsprint I collect. The sections of prints that are left on these byproducts of my making process are full of potential. What was striking with what happened here when I went to save the image, was that I activated the copy and paste function on my iPhone. The blue line that appeared vertically across the image was of instant interest and actually made the image more appealing. There is a very faint cross that reveals itself in the top right hand corner and this is a motif that straddles my work. What this chance happening sparked was a way for me to introduce colour into my work. This came totally as a result of myself interacting with the phones touch screen functions. I could actually imagine using this adapted image as an actual piece of work, apportioning another artists work and calling it my own had a very postmodern feel to it. In a way it’s a reproduction, but unique with the serendipitous result that made itself present on the screen.
